What Causes Severe Hip Pain While Having Osteoarthritis?

I have always for awhile have hip pain but this week it is so severe I cannot put weight on it each day it gets worse and worse. Had xray it says osteoarthritis moderate to severe degeneration. Going to ortho Doctor Monday but it just gets worse and worse where I can hardly walk. Should I go to ER?

I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, you must not try to put your weight on your hip. Osteoarthritis is inflammation of the bones involving joint spaces. If you keep walking around with it, it tends to get worse by the day. Right now you must rest as much as possible. Paracetamol will help with the pain. Also try hot fomentation. You may consider going to the ER if the pain is excruciating, sharp and suddenly increases. In that case, you will need higher pain killers.
