What Causes Severe Irritation In The Throat After Taking Clindamycin?

I am taking Clindamycin for a sinus infection and am having nausea, stomach pain, heartburn, sore throat. I feel as if my throat is irritated and it is hard to swallow. I have a pain right under my breast bone. This comes on within 5 minutes of taking the pill but didn't happen for the first 4 days

Hello,

It looks like you are suffering from side effects of antibiotic intake that is causing hyperacidity and acid reflux which is causing the following symptoms. Irritation in throat is due to the burning sensation caused by acid. Pain below breast bone is also due to acid coming upward in food pipe from stomach.

My advice to you is that you can start taking proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole empty stomach till you are on antibiotics. You can also take antacids. Eat plenty of probiotics like yogurt. Avoid spicy and acidic foods. In case if still the symptoms worsen then you can consult your physician and he can reduce the dose of medicine or change the drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
