What Causes Severe Itching Sensation All Over The Body?

My mother is 87, has dementia and has been itching severely all over... we have tried every topical, she was recently in the hospital for lower quadrant abdomonal pain, that was never figured out. All blood work, CT, Xrays and ultrasounds showed absolutely nothing... but her itching has increased

Hi.
As per your case history your mother is having senile pruritus.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply an emollient cream like Enmoist cream twice daily on whole body.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
