What Causes Severe Itchy Rashes On Buttocks, Chest And Under Arms?

My son has an insatible itch. The doctors do not know for sure what this is. It s a bumpy rash on his buttocks, chest, hands, inner thighs and under arms near his biceps. His girlfriend had these previous to him getting this. The doctor put him on steriods which helped with the itch but after the treatment the itch returned even worse. Can you help him?

Hello,

Itchy rashes on the buttocks, underarms and chest are commonly due to fungal infections, contact dermatitis, allergy, poor hygiene, ring worms, etc. He is suggested to take care of his hygiene, take regular bath, wear soft cotton clothes. Should not share toiletries. Since he is sexually active, both the partners should get treated. He can apply hydrocortisone ointment in the areas affected. Clotrimazole cream also works well.

He can take a course of antihistamines to get rid of allergy. He should visit ER, get clinically examined. If fungal infection is detected, he will need to take a course of anti-fungal (Fluconazole) orally. Syphilis causes skin rashes, to stay on the safer side both the partners are suggested to get STD tests done. If tests come positive they will be treated with antibiotics / antivirals. Avoid sex for a couple of days.
