What Causes Severe Left Side Chest Pain And Shortness Of Breath?

Hi, I am a seventeen year old female. I bent over last night to pick something up, and collapsed to the ground with severe left side chest pain. It was over my breast, and I was extremely short of breath. A sharp shooting pain came when I would breathe through my mouth, and I had to take short breaths through my nose for is to subside. Today, nearly 24 hours later, I am feeling much better, but all of a sudden feel short of breath. Help!

Hi,

Thanks for you question.

After going through your question there are following possibilities for your symptoms -
1) Muscle spasm.
2) Lung infection.
3) Heart problem : Related to blood supply of heart or structural defect in heart like (Valve problem or hypertrophy of heart)

I would like to advise you to consult your doctor for -
- Detailed clinical examination including local examination of breast area.
- Depending upon it further evaluation can be planned.

Following investigations may be helpful for appropriate diagnosis-
1) Complete blood count.
2) Chest xray.
3) ECG, 2DEcho of heart.
4) Blood test for heart enzymes like Trop T/I, CPK-MB.

You can use pain killer with antacid.
