What Causes Severe Leg Cramps And Pain In An Elderly Female Patient?

93 yr old had shoulder surgery, which seemed to go fine, two days after she began getting severe leg cramps that will not subside, she s on steroids and pain medications is getting weaker by the day. She s so drugged up she can t eat, but they can take her off the pain mess because the leg cramps have her screaming in agony. It looks bleak to make them stop. Are there any known remedies?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

If the surgery was performed under general anesthesia (and not block anesthesia concerning shoulder only), prime reason may be deep vein thrombosis from variety of reasons. I would suggest to consult her at ER for immediate evaluation via Doppler lower limb for looking into the matter and cure at earliest before any inadvertent outcome happens.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
