What Causes Severe Lower Back Pain And Trouble Standing Up From Sitting Position?

Hi, doctor. I m a 23 yo female working a physical job (as a geriatric nursing assistant), and about 4 weeks ago, I started developing severe lower back pain. I thought it might be work-related, and was off work for about a week on vacation, but the pain got worse during that time. Now, it s progressed to be so bad that the only pain relief is to stretch my knees up towards my chest and it only lessens the pain for about half an hour. The pain is worse in the morning and when sitting, and I even have trouble standing up from the sitting position.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the pain you are feeling on lower back which is worse in the morning and when sitting, might be a sign of disc problem. I do not want to precipitate into final diagnosis, but, it's time to get MRI of the back and discuss it further with neurologist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
