What Causes Severe Lower Back Pain With Painful Lumps?

Hi, I am 21 years old and I have been suffering with severe back pain for a few years. It started after a fall when I was 12 but ever since it has become progressively worse. I frequently get cystisis which I have high fevers for a week , thereafter i received antibiotics and the fever and chills left. About a month ago the aching of my lower back and my coccyx started, not just pain, aching. my back is dispersed with spasms yet in my lower back i have about 15 lumps ,small(sharp and unbearable when touched), medium and larger lumps which initiate a deeper pain within that area. My boyfriend is able to pinpoints the lumps by the visible discoloration under my skin. The pain is becoming unbearable, I am on valium, norflex and mybulens , I have also been to physio yet nothing has helped

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of painful lumps on the back that are tender and send deeper pains too along with pain in coccyx and so on. There is discoloration of the skin and severe backache.
This is a rare thing at such an young age.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Consult a Dermatologist first to get one of the lumps biopsied.
Clinical evaluation, examination along with biopsy report will indicate a proper diagnosis and gives plan for management.
If the pain in back is related to the lumps present then the obvious cause has to be treated.
If the pains in lower back and coccyx area are independent of the lumps then you need an MRI of the affected area.
Further management will be as per the findings and clinical correlation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
