What Causes Severe Migraine And Cognitive Dysfunction?

Hello. I had many MRI s to monitor while matter brain lesions. They are taken quarterly and I ve been told every time they are stable. I ve been struggling a lot late with increased migraines and cognitive issues but I see in articles that cognitive changes would not be linked to the lesson. Recently, the doctors tried a different perspective and compared a 2010 MRI with a 2016 MRI and it was then noticeable the lesions are progressing...obviously it s a slow progression, but a difference was very noticeable. How does this, if at all affect my brain function? I lost my job because I wasn t able to compete my work accurately and I ve had this job for years and had no problems until recently. I had trained new people before and I was at a point I had to be retrained on some of those tasks. Could those types of issues be partly caused from the lesions or any neurological decline? Thank you for anything you can help with.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Migraines may be caused by changes in the brain stem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve, a major pain pathway.

Imbalances in brain chemicals, including serotonin, which helps regulate pain in your nervous system, also may be involved. Researchers are still studying the role of serotonin in migraine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
