What Causes Severe Muscle And Joints Pain In A Teenager?

Hello, I m a very concerned mother, whose daughter is away attending an out of state university and has been complaining of body aches and pains for about 2 weeks now. What could be the cause of severe muscle and joint pain in a 19 year old? There has also been weight loss, not appetite though and headaches. Labs and urinalysis were done but only a trace of leukocytes in urine, SED RATE WESR (38), Lymphocyte % (13.2), HCT (34.4), HGB (11.7), WBC (12.8),C-REACTIVE PROTEIN (59), SQUAMEPITH (15) and PROTEIN (30). These were all the labs that were out of range, please advice. Thank You, Mariela

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated. We have to rule out possible causes like myopathy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
