What Causes Severe Muscle Spasms In The Lower Abdomen?

My husband is having severe muscle spasms and cramps in both sides daily and sometimes in both sides in lower abdomen ( not very often), also has had a cough. He is on Lovastatin 20 mg. daily. at first we thought he POSSIBLY was low on one of his electrolytes but it is drinking Gatorade and water, pickle juice when severe cramps start in his sides. EATS bananas daily. We have tried soaking in hot baths with Epsom salt, but even if they subside for a few to several hours this is happening daily sometimes up to 4 times a day. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:
1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor and to confirm do few investigations like [Urine RE/ME, CBC with differential, and a CT scan.
2) Discuss surgical treatment as per scan report.

Do take preventive steps like this at home:

1) Avoid strenuous activity at first for up to 14 days. Always ask your doctor about limitations on your activity and when you can resume normal activities after surgery.

2) Support your abdomen when you cough. Place a pillow over your abdomen and apply pressure before you cough, laugh or move to help reduce pain.

3) Get up and move when you are ready. Start slowly and increase your activity as you feel up to it. Start with short walks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
