Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 9 year old son had a severe nosebleed yesterday (hasn t had a nosebleed in years) for no reason. It just gushed. It lasted for about five minutes before it subsided. We happened to be at a place where a nurse was and she helped out and suggested rest at the time. This afternoon, his nose gushed again. both times a thick goop came out before it stopped, Now he is complaining of a headache and has a 100.3 temperature. My son is never sick. What is your suggestion? I m on the fence about bringing him to the e.r.
Thanks for the query.I have read your query and understand the concern.
The best way to stop nasal bleed is to pinch the nose tight for 5 to 10 min and to breathe from the mouth during that time.
I strongly suggest you to approach the ER if the bleeding is not stopping, it will require nasal packing to control the bleeding.
Drugs like Botroclot 4 drops into the nasal cavity also helps in stoppage of the bleeding.
However I would like to add here that bleeding from the nose in children is not normal and you will have to look into the following aspects 1. Heat in the atmosphere. 2. Some drugs causing increased tendencies to bleed. 3. Infections.
Therefore, consult ENT specialist for diagnosis of this bleeding if it does not stop or recur after some times.
