Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Nausea After Taking Metronidazole?
I had an attack of diverticulitis a week ago Friday and have been taking Metronidazole 500 MD which has caused me to be nauseous and sick to my stomach so that I can hardly eat. Is this normal? I just took a medication called Ondansetron for the nausea.
I do not think Metronidazole is causing nausea to you. Diverticulitis attack is responsible as it alters the intestinal flora. Should start taking probiotics and antacids after eating. Be careful with foods/drinks you consume. I believe your doctor has advised an appropriate diet for diverticulitis attack and during recovery period.
Ondansetron is okay to take for nausea. If it will persist, should consult further with your gastroenterologist and change therapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wish you fast recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
