What Causes Severe Nausea And Vomiting Along With Constipation In A Toddler?

Hello doctor, my 3 yrs old daughter had vomiting and stomach pain on last Friday along with total rejection of solid foods, but there was no loose motion. On Saturday we took her to near by doc who prescribed Ofloxacin & Ornidazole suspension and Cyclopam suspension 5ml twice a day after meal. Doc advised me to give liquidy rice or rice+pulses which we call khichdi in India but My daughter is feeling nauseated at the sight of food & crying her heart out not to eat any food. Somehow I managed her to eat 1 cracker sugar free buiscuit and have her medicine with lots of plain fluids.Today is the third day Monday, she is feeling pressure to poop but when she sits on the toilet seat she is unable to evacuate, only 2-3 drops of dark brown liquid was there. Nausea too isn t reduced, still she is not ready to take solid food and hence feeling weak. What should I do?

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, there can be various reasons for the nausea, vomiting along with constipation in a toddler as:
- Intestine infection through some sort of bugs ingested via food or liquid
- Enteric fever
- Mesenteric lymphadenitis of viral origin
- Intestine obstruction
- Inspissated stool with secondary back pressure changes
- Food or diet related
- Lack of physical activity
