What Causes Severe Night Sweats While Treating Upper Respiratory Viral Infection?

I am experiencing severe night sweats for the last 3 weeks when I started with a viral upper respiratory infection. The cough is subsiding but the sweats, fatigue , lack of appetite and mild diarrhea continue. I am 74 years old and have traveled a lot including Brazil and Turkey

HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

Night sweats could be either due to your body temperature coming down 9 or coming to normal from high ) . This could happen due to use of certain medications like NSAID or Paracetamol .

The other possibility is your blood Sugars might be getting low at night, this could happen if you take any medications for diabetes or if there is persisting infection.

In view of your symptoms of fatigue , lack of appetite and diarrhoea I feel the infection ( may not be Viral but bacterial ) is still persisting. You need to get certain test to know what kind of infection is there.

Kindly get the following tests done and revert back.

Complete Hemogram , Chest X ray, Stool Routine , check blood sugars at the time of sweats.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
