I fell over 5 years ago. Since then my knee has been giving way. The pain is in my knee and has been going up my femur. When comparing my bad knee to my good one. My bad knee feels rough and feels like their little bits of something floating around. But my good knee doesn t have this what could be the problem?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in the knee joint and the knee joint giving way after trauma is suggestive of some kind of injury or trauma to the ligaments and tendons of the knee joint.
The injury and the trauma could have possibly damaged the cartilages, tendons or ligaments of knee joint.
I suggest you to get a MRI of the knee joint to assess the condition of various cartilages, ligaments and tendon.
Feeling of something floating in the knee joint can be due to rice bodies (seen in osteoarthritis) or some ligament or cartilage.

Thanks and take care
