What Causes Severe Pain And Stiffness In The Arms And Legs?

Hello! I m experiencing painful aching arms & legs 24 hours a day since last month, unable to lie down on my sides as pain gets really painful, when I sit more than 5 mins my lowerbodyfrom waist down goes numb, and feels tingly, takes a while to get feeling back to my feet in order to walk, feeling very fatigued, just come back from a 14 day end cruise, spent a great deal of time sleeping. Daily headaches. Cannot walk for more than 5 mins when my lower back becomes painful and stiff. Have a very painful left hand down the thumb to wrist and up my arm, have mentioned this to gp being ignored, I had a heart attack in 2010, was thrombolised, given 2 stents, mention these symptoms when I attend annual cardio check ups. I m on monumil, statins, bisoporol, lansoprazole, aspirin, fluoxetine and take high strength fish oil caplet on daily basis. What could these symptoms be as its , taking over my life, within an hour of getting up at am having had 8 hours sleep, will fall asleep again, cannot put my hands in cold water as it will seine my hands into spasms, please advice.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hi,

Continue the medicine part which is mentioned. The reason for the aches and pain in the body is due to weakness of the muscles. The tingling, numbness, in the lower limbs are related to the nerve entrapment in the lumbar spine. Need an MRI assistance if possible to take one.

Exercises should be added along with the medications. I will advice for taking a help from a Physiotherapist close by if possible. If not then at least you can learn some free exercises from the physiotherapist and follow it up at home.

The exercises to be followed - upper limb pendular movements, core stability, spinal muscle strengthening exercises, hip muscle strengthening exercises, static hamstring, static Quadriceps, straight leg raise, breathing exercises, ankle toe movements, chair aerobics, etc.

This will help the overall condition and improve the physiological functions of the body. Also strengthening of the core with help stabilize the spinal column leading to reduced low back pain and the radiating symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
