I ve had joint pain for years and for about a year have had severe pain and stiffness in both upper arms...can t turn over in bed, put on my bra, blow dry my hair, do yard work, get in and out of cars, etc without great pain. Have had severe fatigue and depression and pain and stiffness in elbows, left hip, and knees, also. My general dr tried me on Cymbalta, Zoloft, and finally Lexapro for the depression. Lexapro seemed to finally help. The depression is a lot better, so even though I m still hurting, at least I m not crying because of the pain/depression. I went to see a rheumatologist a couple of days ago after being referred by my dermatologist to rule out psoriatic arthritis, since I also have skin issues. Have had no swelling of joints. I just figured I needed to start somewhere. He didn t once read my paperwork or ask me what my symptoms were. I asked him about PMR, and he said that since I m only 53, it s not likely that I have it. My bloodwork came back, and I viewed it on the patient portal. My CRP is 15 and sed rate 29. Everything else fell within the normal range. He also did shoulder X-rays. They said if anything was abnormal, they would call. Of course, I got no call and was told to come back in 3 months when I checked out. No recommendations about what to do about the pain (anti-inflammatories, etc) or suggestions about what I should do. I m so frustrated. Is there some other type of doctor I should see other than a rheumatologist? Or should I try to find another rheumatologist? We only have a couple in my area, and the other one isn t taking new patients. Help please...
