What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In Right Ear?

I am 19 F i cant hear from my right ear at all. It is in severe pain. It seems to be swollen too. I visited an ENT specialist. She said that my ear is too swollen and she cant see past my ear and suggested me some antibiotics and told me to visit after a week or so. Till then my pain continues and I still have no idea neither does my doctor because of the swelling. I just would like to know the possibilities of what it could be? Will I be able to hear again? Will this unbearable pain end.. Ever? I also have an impacted wisdom tooth coming on the same side.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain severe earache along with swelling in ear and loss of hearing seems to be due to severe ear infection leading to severe inflammation and swelling..
It does not seems to be due to wisdom tooth eruption and seems to be due to ear infection only..
I would suggest you to continue taking antibiotics and also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and pain....
In case if there is no improvement consult your ENT again and he can advise you steroid and antibiotic injection to reduce swelling of the ear and also reduce infection..
You can be advised x ray,MRI Scan and audiometry etc to rule out the exact cause of symptoms and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised a long course of antibiotics oral as well as injectables..
Antibiotic and steroid ear drops can be advised..
In case if there is fluid inside the ear surgical drainage can be done..
The loss of hearing seems to be due to damage to the eardrum due to severe infection and if it is the case Tympanoplasty might be needed for repairing the eardrum..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
