What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In The Calf Muscles?

Hi, My husband is having a lot of pain in the calf of his leg, he has always had big muscles and his veins bulge all the time, but he is complaining of leg pain and when he touches the vein, he says it burns, but there is no redness or swelling of the leg..... what can we do to relieve his pain, and what do you think it might be?
