What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In The Shin?

I started running again about a month ago and about 2 weeks ago I started noticing a deep pain in a particular area in my left shin. There is tenderness to the touch and some swelling. It doesn t bother me as much in the morning but hurts the more I do activities with it. I am a gymnastics coach and this is affecting my job and my ability to run as well. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. You may be having some bruise and cellulitis. You need to consult an orthopedic surgeon who will take xray and see if there is any pathology.

In mild cases treatment with antibiotics and pain killers may be sufficient. If severe IV antibiotics or minor surgery may be required.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
Dr Sanjay Kini
