What Causes Severe Pain Around Knees?

Hello, Dr, my name is Karen. I am a registered nurse (RN), I have a total of 6 current herniated disks (2 were fixed in 2013). I have arthritis in many of my joints. I go to physical therapyy, usually every other week. I am receiving pain injections into both knees. (They can only be authorized by an MD. I have been noticing a pattern of when I have severe pain around and under both knees. My last injectible meds were given spprox. Jan-Feb, 2-014; so I m not elgiible to receive another med unyil probably June. My problem is that I am in an ever-increasing pain; the medications seen to be loosing theirneffectiveness after maybe 6 weeks The meds have been working, up until now, I have noi=ticed a progressive edema aeround both kneecaps. It feels like there is water inside the joints. Sometims it feels like my legs are too weak to hold up my body. Could it be possible that I have gout? (I already have a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in both knees). Lyrica is also loosing its effectiveness; i m guessing that I might have just opened a Pandora s box. Can you help me?
