What Causes Severe Pain Around The Cricoid Cartilage?

Am having serious pain on my neck, I can swallow very well believing is not inflamed tonsil. But the pains persisted after a doctor prescribed amoxcylin which I completed the dosage. The pain is outside immediately after the lower jaw. With my little experience of anatomy, the pain is around cricoid cartilage. The pain is much, at times it wakes me up in the middle of the night. The pain used to hurts as if the are pus inside. Please what can I do?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in the neck can be caused due to disorders of larynx or thyroid.
A clinical assessment is required to know the site of pain.
An examination of the throat is required to look for evidence of inflammation of the larynx.
If larynx is within normal limits, examination of the thyroid gland and cartilages is required.
Inflammation of the cartilage of the thyroid can be present as suspected by you.
However, complete clinical assessment is required to look for evidence of infection and inflammation.

Thanks and take care
