What Causes Severe Pain Around The Gluteus Maximus?

I get a shooting pains around my Gluteus Maximus running to my leg, this is only with the left leg. If i stand up from either sitting or laying down the shooting pain starts and my bodies first reaction is to just throw myself either back into my seat or onto my bed. This is some of the worst pain i have experience. When walking i have also developed somewhat of a limp, mixed with the experiencing of pain which also runs up the left side of my back and to my left shoulder. I was wondering in your professional opinion what maybe wrong? What should i do?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The pain that you are describing can be due to sciatica. This is pain that is due to injury of the sciatic nerve which is the major nerve that supplies the lower limb.
It is formed from nerves that come out of the spinal cord.

There are different possible causes. To find the cause and for treatment , it would be best to see your doctor for assessment.
This should include physical examination of the back and lower limb as well as imaging of the spine.

Treatment may vary according to the cause but in general would initially consist of physiotherapy and pain medication.

I hope this helps
