Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m having pains around my left shoulder. Not on top of my shoulder, but on my back and around my ribcage. It hurts to move my left arm or perform simple activities. It hurts when I laugh, sneeze, or cough. Even when I m walking, I cannot stand up straight or I wince in pain. Only on my left shoulder though. It started around last week when I was working. I thought nothing of it because the pains were minor, but today it started to really hurt. I had my mother rub some Icy Hot on the area that hurts but it doesn t help relieve the pain. What can I do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Left shoulder pain may be caused by stress/strain, shoulder osteoarthritis or arthritis, rotator cuff injury, tendinitis, and bursitis. I will advise you see the doctor for examination and a shoulder x-ray. In the meantime, I will advise you try the following: • Take a pain/anti-inflammatory drug like Aceclofenac • A myorelaxant like Miorel • Voltaren gel for local application
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
