What Causes Severe Pain Below The Knees?

For the last two days I ve had a sharp stabbing pain in my lower left leg about 2 inches below the knee slightly toward the inside of the leg. It has happened four times in the last 48 hours always while seated or lying down. It is so severe I screamed in pain the last time and my daughter wants to take me to the ER. It lasts only a second or two but it feels like someone is taking an ice pick and shoving it in my leg

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of severe pain below the knee sounds to be acute ligament sprain or strain.

Local application of heating pad, analgesic spray with diclofenac and camphor content, analgesic medications will help greatly.

Consult later your GP if required for possible x-ray need.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
