What Causes Severe Pain Below The Ribs?

Hello. I have started experiencing pain in my right side today, just a little below my ribs, and moving forward and down slightly. I have a history of kidney stones and of cysts on my ovaries, but neither feels quite like this does. It hurts much worse if I move around, and is slightly comforted by sitting or lying down with a heating pad. At what point do I need to seek medical attention?

Hi,

Human body has liver on the right side of lower chest under the rib and another organ called gall bladder around that area. If you have any symptoms like fever, dark urine (jaundice) etc., or a history of gall stones then you may visit a physician for further evaluation. Pain alone in the area aggravating during movements signifies more of a muscle injury which should resolve on its own in a few days time. I would advise you to take a simple pain killer like paracetamol along with anti acid tablets like ranitidine for symptomatic relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
