What Causes Severe Pain During Bowel Movement After Placing Mirena?

Since getting the Mirena inserted I ve had lots of abdominal pain, cramping that felt like contractions for about an hour every day. They finally stopped three days ago but now I have severe shooting pain during bowel movements and lots of gas. I read that the hormone it releases might affect it, but I also read about endo and I don t want that...Is this a serious concern?

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain during bowel movement after placing Mirena . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastritis , IBS , acid reflux , food intolerance or ulcers . The symptoms can also occur as post mirena insertion effects , so if the symptoms persists then consult your doctor again and discuss the condition . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order stool test , endoscopy or ultrasound . Doctor may prescribe H2 blockers , proton pump inhibitor , antibiotics like ornidazole along with anti inflammatory . For now eat light and non spicy , eat small , avoid eating sea food as you mention in query and frequent meals and take antacid after every meal .
