Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Pain From The Heels To The Feet?
Out of the blue, I am experiencing intense, sharp pain in the middle of my heel, radiating upwards about 2 cm. It is intermittent, and excruciating when it happens. It lasts for about 10 to 15 seconds, then ceases. I haven t put any excess load on my heel recently, and my foot is in excellent shape. It has woken me in the night, and nothing seems to alleviate the pain when it occurs. I am 60 years old, in good health. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.
It looks like Planter Fasciitis, inflammation or irritation of the tight tissue forming the arch of the foot. Get physically examined by your health care provider to rule out Archilles Tendonitis.
Take NSAIDS (Naproxen/Combiflam), if they do not reduce the pain then you can take Corticosteroid injections.
Physiotherapy is equally effective. Night splints are helpful, foot supports like wedges & heel cups, comfortable shoes are helpful. Give adequate rest to your foot & do not get over weight.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
