What Causes Severe Pain In Back And Groin Inspite Of Taking Hydrocodone And Gabapentin?

I m 81 years old and have arthritis of my joints, as well as bi-lateral knee replacements and left shoulder replacement. I have spinal stenosis causing me a lot of pain, especially at night causing sleepless nights and falling asleep days. I am on pain relievers (hydrocodone, gabapentin) and can t be on my feet too long without a lot of pain. I hate to feel like a drug addict but without pain killers I am in pain. Cortisone shots are ineffective having had several. I m trying to avoid any surgery as long as possible and the pain in my right groin area is quite severe some nights causing my leg to be in such pain I feel like I could scream. I don t know as there is any help for me but like to read information on anything that might help. I do icing and some heat on my back, as well as pain medication. Thank you for listening to my complaints.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.
IN the given situation, You seems to suffer from-Spinal Canal Stenosis with Compression neuralgic pains, in right groin and in legs.
The PID accompanied with Canal stenosis, is compressing on nerve roots supplying groin dermatomes -L1 on right side and hence pain in back /groin.Central pain killers like Hydrocodone and Gabapentin-can't relieve its pain due to extreme nerve roots compression.
RFA of L1 right nerve / or Alcohol inj at L1 level, would relieve such excrutiating pains.
Remedy-
PID excision / or Decompression of Spinal canal Stenosis - of Central Canal, would resolve pains in your case.
Alchoholic neurolysis would give good results at expert's hand.
Consults with Ortho-Surgeon and ruling out other causes of pain in back and groin.
CT / MRI of L1- would fix diagnosis and would help in planning best treatment in your case.

Hope this would help you to plan further of this complex illness of yours.
