Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Pain In Back And Upper Chest Post Intake Of Prednisone?
I have been to urgent care last night with bad chest cough and sore throat, fever and cold sweets for three days. Now taking an antibiotic and pednesone BUT when I cough hard to try to get mucus (dark yellow green) up I get severe unbearable needle pains in my back, upper chest and under breast/top of rib cage. It makes me stop. I am wondering if it is something worse? I just started the meds last night so it has only been 20 hours. But I have never felt the intensity of this shooting pain before , it does quit in a 3-5 seconds.
As per my clinical experience, severe back pain with chest discomfort compelling of breath arrest can be sign of underlying pneumonia, pleura involvement through inflammation or else.
An x-ray of the chest with total WBC count and ESR are best predictive of underlying severity of the issue involving lower respiratory tract infection. Kindly revert back with all details of reports please.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
