What Causes Severe Pain In Back, hip And Buttocks?

I had radiophequency ablation 4 weeks ago on L4 L5 and have been having extreme pain in my left hip/buttocks and down into my calf. Almost a camping type pain. Any idea if this is from the RFA and if it ll go away? Or suggestions on how to relieve this.

Hello,

After radiofrequency ablation procedure may patients suffer from increased pain due to nerve irritation. It should get reduced over time. However, if you feel the symptoms are continuing and you are having discomfort you should report to your treating doctor and get a follow up clinical examination done to detect any complications or side effects due to the procedure.

Side effects may include motor nerve damage, infection, worsening of pain, bleeding, etc. you will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, take NSAIDS, one SOS for relief. Get connected to a physical therapist, exercises, massage, heat and ice therapy are effective. Include anti-inflammatory food in your daily diet. Take Vitamin B6, B12, vitamin E rich food or supplements to help nerve repair. Stay well hydrated, avoid stress and addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
