What Causes Severe Pain In Buttock Radiating Down The Leg?
I have extreme pain in my right buttock. It travels down my leg and sometimes causes numbness and tingling. I have had Physical therapy for the condition. Now I am going to a chiropractor. I was referred by my orthopedic doctor to the PT. I do not have arthritis in my hip area but can t get rid of the pain completely. It hurts to stand and to walk. I hav e been in treatment for more than 2 months. I don t know what to do next. Should I request an MRI? I have been xrayed 2 times. I am so tired of the pain.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in hip region radiating down to leg causing numbness and tingling is suggestive of radiculopathy. Radiculopathy refers to involvements of nerve roots when they emanate from the spinal cord. Any kind of irritation, compression or injury to the nerves can lead to pain, tingling or numbness of the area supplied by the nerve. The cause and site of nerve involvements needs to be known to plan further management. A MRI will help to know the site of nerve involvement. However, please consult your orthopedician before getting MRI done.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
