What Causes Severe Pain In Buttocks In The 37th Week Of Pregnancy?

I am about 27 weeks pregnant with my third child. I have had two c sections. the first one was emergancy csection. For the past two weeks I have been having horrible pain in my right butt bone. It hurts to move, sit, stand, and lay down. It is only in that one area and does not send any other pains anywhere else. I am in so much pain and I do not know what to do. I have tried tylonal, stretching, and walking. Nothing helps. Can you give me an idea of what might be wrong? I am going to call my ob tomorrow, however I need an answer now, i can not take the pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

During pregnancy, the expanding uterus and growing fetus can put pressure on the sciatic nerve, causing a condition called sciatica. I suggest using painkillers such as Acetaminophen which is safe to use during pregnancy. I also suggest gentle stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
