What Causes Severe Pain In Cheeks And Jaw After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday. I have been noticing some pain by my cheeks and it kind of feels like cankersores. I was wondering if this is normal. Both sides of my cheeks and jaw have been hurting with pain. I'm hoping that this isn't a dry socket. I also feel like I have a canker sore on top where one of my top wisdom tooth was taken out. I have been doing salt water flushes and I'm wondering if maybe the salt is causing this canker sore feeling? History of canker sores run in the family and I'm known to get them quite often. I haven't had any problems with my teeth and I think the surgical sites are healing well. One of my stitches have already came out I am following up with the dentist on Thursday but I'm just a little concerned as of now.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain pain in cheek and jaws after extraction of wisdom tooth is a common finding and need not to be worried...

Firstly I would like to tell you that extraction of teeth on both right and left side of jaw is not advisable in one sitting.
It causes more discomfort and difficulty in controlling and bearing pain and when you chew you may tend to do injury to the healing lesion.

Other thing is that dry socket mostly occurs after 4 to 5 days of extraction and pain can not always be due to dry socket and it can be simply due to inflammation that occurs after every traumatic surgical procedure.

I would suggest you to take the prescribed medicines on time and if the painkillers does not provide relief you can consult your dentist to change the medicine to a more efficient one so that it can relieve you and it required steroids can be given to control inflammation..

If you are not comfortable you can consult your dentist before itself so that he can take necessary steps to relieve you and find out the exact cause of pain..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
