What Causes Severe Pain In Ear With Bleeding?

Hello, My daughter is 5, and has been battling a fever for two days (this is day three). It s 104.5 this am taken by an ear thermometer. She has cold symptoms (runny nose, watery eyes, cough), but what worries me is that her ear is bleeding and extremely sensitive to touch. She complained of ear pain yesterday, but there was no blood. I am waiting for the doc office to open, then I found this site. The blood from her ear is dark red, not pussy, and seems to be dry from what she ll let me see. Thanks for any input. Am I ok to wait a few hours or do I need to head to the ER? Thanks again!

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of severe pain in ear with bleeding which is something you should be concerned about. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for perfect diagnosis and treatment. Avoid touching or pricking ears with any sharp object and maintain complete hygiene. Doctor may use pneumatic otoscopy for diagnosis of infection along with other tests like tympanometry, acoustic reflectometry or tympanocentesis. If infection will be there doctor may prescribe antibiotic course along with ear drops. For now take ibuprofen if not allergic or paracetamol for pain and swelling.
