What Causes Severe Pain In Legs At Night In A Diabetic Patient?

I am male, age 75, fairly active, don t smoke or drink. I have been diagnosed as a diabetic. my complaint is my legs ache a lot of the time, especially at night. I do have varicose veins and my legs feel cold at night: my toes ache, from I assume poor circulation. I sleep under a comforter to relieve the coldness. I have been to see doctor(s) about the problem, but they have no answers for me. My doctor says I do not need compression socks. How do I get relief?
