Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a swollen very painful place on my lower gum and there are no teeth there I think there used to be one close to it but not actually where it is anyway I can touch it with my finger and puss will come out it started yesterday and I have drained it like 4 times now I drain it and wait several hours and do it again can someone tell me what it is??? Do I need to see a doctor or dentist??? Or will it just go away???
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that pain and pus discharge from the area where there is no tooth then there is a possibility that there is a retained root piece which might have left after the tooth got removed or left after extraction by the dentist.. At times the root pieces left deep inside the jaw keep moving upwards and cause infection leading to pus formation.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get her evaluated and an x ray of the area will help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. In case if there is any retained root piece then removal of the same under antibiotic cover can help in removal of the symptoms completely.. As of now start doing warm saline gargles.. Do betadine mouthwash gargles..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
