What Causes Severe Pain In Neck And Shoulders While Suffering From Disc Rupture In Neck?

My neck started hurting yesterday , and I can hardly turn it without terrible pain. I have two ruptured discs i my neck, but haven t been having any problems. my shoulders are also hurting, my head is very heavy feeling. DO YOU KNOW WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in neck and shoulders while suffering from disc rupture in neck. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query ,but in case it seems to me that the symptoms are probably due to nerve compression or nerve injury due to disc rupture . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRi to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe gabapentin , muscle relaxant , vitamin supplement , cortisone injection or physical therapy . For now apply warm compresses on neck and shoulder or take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
