What Causes Severe Pain In Neck Radiating To Toes?

I am age 55, I started having back and neck problems at age 40. I worked 10-15hrs a day 5-6 days a week at a printing,Bindry constant lifting jogging newspapers off the press all day standing, lifting, bending to stack bundles on skid. Then taking bundles 5-20Lbs off skid and put into stiching maching.I cut off R index finger 30yrs ago it was reattached&fused at the joint.I also had carpal tunnel surgery in R hand.I had R shoulder surgery in2005 to remove bone spur on rotator cuff. I didn t claim workmans comp because my boss didn t like claims going thru because it would raise his rates&he would get very mad.At age42 MRI&Nerve test showed I had 3pinched nerves 2Bad lumbar disk also had cervical fusion came in thru front of neck they put in a plate&screws.I have been hospitalized several times&in ICU for pheunomia serval times it was so advanced&in both lungs ane time one lung was compressed to about 1&1/2 inch I don t know what that means but I was in severe pain at work the day before I was hospitalized every time I lifted a bundle I had such a sharp pain in my chest I thought I was having a heart attack. I also got a blood poison MSSA of coarse after all the yrs I worked for the company I was just told not to come back.I then started getting severe headaches after 3rd trip to ER the doc did an exray on my neck.I was advised to go to orthopedic surgeon exray showed my neck vertebrae were shattered or all were zigzag back&forth I had another cervical fusion, they went in thru back of neck C1-C7&T1 were fused.I was told I have severe degernative disk or Osteoporis arthritis.Had 2nd shoulder surgery,I tore my bicept tendon the arthritis in R shoulder pushed my shoulder out of socket&my shoulder was bone on bone they scraped out all arthritis&pushed shoulder in socket.2yrs later I had so much pain &couldn t use R arm they had to do a total reverse shoulder replacement. That was 3rd shoulder surgery. I still need R hand rebuild bone on bone also need lumbar fusion& cut open pinched nerves.I have severe low back pain constantly but I need to know what would cause 2x in last 4months I didn t do any thing but woke up in severe pain from neck to toes I couldn t walk on my own basically bed ridden my husband is retired so he was home to get me out of bed& go to bathroom after3-4 days I could slowly start walking &a week later I was able to walk on my own again. I need to know what would cause this? do I need further testing?I should add that social security deemed me disabled one day before my 50th b-day.

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for providing the brief history of you.

A thorough Neuromuscular assessment is advised.

As the pain is present in the form of a radiating symptom, a thorough neuromuscular assessment is advised. Also, you have neck and back disc injury, so the pain is due to the nerve impingement. As you have couple of more issues like shoulder, finger etc, i will recommend you to undergo proper physical therapy as it will help you to regain the function of the joints involved and also the strength to perform your activities of daily living. A complete rehabilitation for upto 8-12 weeks should give the best outcome score, as balancing the needs of the function and the past injury will take some time.

In my clinical practice i see cases with severe issues, musculoskeletal injuries and they respond well to physical therapy.

For detailed suggestion/queries/inputs/rehabilitation plan - contact me and i will happy to help you.

Regards
