What Causes Severe Pain In Pelvis During Intercourse Along With Nausea?

My husband and I had intercourse the other night. Towards the end, he penetrated harder and I felt sharp pains in my pelvic area. I have felt pain before while having intercourse but nothing this intense. Thinking it would just go away, I began to get ready for bed. As I was lying in the bed the sharp pain came back and only progressed to get worse. I sat up to see if the would help and nothing would ease the piercing pain. I got up to go to the bathroom and could barely walk. I sat on the toilet as not only the pain continued, but I begin to feel nausea and like I was going to faint. My husband quickly put a cold wash cloth on my neck which seemed to help somewhat. I was literally in tears. Finally after five minutes or so the sharp pain in my pelvic area eased up somewhat enough to where I could go lay back down. It has been three days and my pelvic area still is aching, mildly, but I still know it s there. I have researched and seen several answers that lead to a ruptured ovarian cyst. I m not sure if that is what it is. I am only self-diagnosing. Problem is, my husband just started a new job so we won t have medical insurance for three more months. I feel maybe I need to go get checked but again maybe I am just overreacting. Can someone help me figure out what may of happened?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The deep pelvic pain after intercourse may be in concern with:
- Pelvic inflammatory conditions
- Cervical infection with chlamydia
- Ruptured ovarian cyst
- Acute muscle spasm
- Psychological or stress related

However, co relation with clinical findings as that of abdomen tenderness, adnexal tenderness, findings at clitoris with culture swab and ultrasound report of the abdomen and pelvis are of paramount importance to consider the diagnosis and cure accordingly.

Till the consultation appointment is awaited , following would help you:
- Bed rest
- Avoiding penetrative sex (vaginal as well as anal if involved)
- No weight bearing
- Plenty of liquids to avoid urinary tract infection
- Control of blood sugar
- Analgesic and anti inflammatory medicines such as Diclofenac, Ibuprofen or others with antacid tablet or syrup

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
