What Causes Severe Pain In Right Ear After Ear Irrigation?

Hello, I had tubes input into my ears when I was a toddler, then they fell out when I was in the 5th or 6th grade. Every once in a while, I would feel a wet sensation from my right ear, and very little pain. Today, my new doctor flushed out my right ear and I immediately became in tremendous pain. I was later prescribed 3 Azithromycin 500mg tablets and Ciprodex ear drops. As soon as I took the ear drops, I became in horrendous pain again and up until this moment, have felt no relief. What does this mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pain after irrigation usually happens as the tympanic membrane that is the ear drum is pushed with irrigation and it is pain sensitive. The antibiotic medications your doctor prescribed you is because when there is instrumentation then there is increased risk of infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
