What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen And Back Along With Nausea?

What could be causing severe abdominal and back pain, nausea, along with abdominal distention in a patient with breast cancer with mets to the liver. Pain and distention worse after eating any type of food. Pain and distention does subside, but never goes away completely. MD Thought was possible constipation, and treated with miralax and stool softeners, as well as glycerin suppository, which only resulted in diarrhea. This has been going on for days, MD suggested that pt, just keep normal appointment next Monday tho patient seems to be getting progressively worse followed by brief periods of improvement. Pt currently not on chemo, not taking opioids, PET of 2 weeks ago showed no other abdominal mets, with only mild ascites. Thoughts??? (other than mine which was that her oncology team (which is new to her as she is enrolled in a clinical trial using a hormone type treatment method) isn t being very responsive

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I feel you have gastritis or acid peptic disease. You need to follow some tips:

1. Do not eat spicy food.
2. Take medications for gastritis- Pantop/Omez/Rantac.
3. Take little food at frequent intervals. Breakfast around 8am, small snack at 11am, lunch at 1pm, small snack at 4pm and dinner at 8pm.
4. Drink plenty of water
5. Avoid smoking, alcohol, tobacco and even excess of coffee and tea.
6. Do not take much of stress. Stress aggravates gastritis.
7. Do regular exercises. At least half an hour a day.
8. Learn meditation techniques.
9. Follow this regularly for 21 days. It is said that anything you practice regularly for 21 days becomes a habit

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Sanjay Kini
