Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are a few things to consider. If you have a chest heaviness it might be due to
acid reflux but we need to rule out heart problems first. Heart problems would be the most likely cause if you are a male over 40 years of age and if you are
overweight, with
diabetes or smoking. Younger patients are at risk for heart problems if they use illicit drugs like cocaine as well.
If you do not have the above criteria than very likely it is due to the stomach and taking some
omeprazole 20 mg twice a day can be tried to reduce the acids in the stomach and help with
heartburn and
chest pain. For your bowel you can take some fiber supplements in the pharmacy and
lactulose syrup one table spoon twice a day. If you are not having a bowel movement please do not strain for long times as this might cause development of hemorroids and cause bleeding and pain.
It is still better to see your doctor who can examine you and confirm the diagnosis and give you prescription for the symptoms you are having.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
