What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen?

Last night I had an intense episode of abdominal pain. It was so bad, I couldn t talk or stand up straight. I had to leave work early, the pain was a ten out of ten. I didn t want to go to the ED because I used to have episodes llke this is in the past and they never found anything other than gas or constipation. I took a gas pill but it didn t help. I noticed that I was itching also and I have a history of allergies so I thought maybe I was having an allergic reaction of some sort. I also felt a little nauseous, which is also common for me, I regularly feel like I am going to vomit. I came home, took a half tablet of Benadryl and laid down. The pain was now radiating from my stomach to my back. But after about 20 minutes of taking the Benadryl, the pain improved. I was able to get up. It is the next morning and I feel a little queezy and I m scared to eat anything due to possibly triggering the pain again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thanks for putting your query here.
As you have got similar history in past, severe abdominal pain radiating from front to back and nausea,it may be because of gastritis, pancreatitis, gall bladder stones or renal stones.(you have not mentioned in which part of abdomen you get pain).
If i were your treating doctor,I recommend,
-Advice USG abdo.Further specific management depends on the results of USG.
-Cap omeprazole or pantopD ,that includes combination with antiemetic, once in morning.
-If the pain is cramp like in lower part of abdomen, tab dicylcomine is recommended.
-Avoid hot ,spicy and high fat content food.
Avoid alcohol and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen.
-Adequate intake of water.
-Avoid skipping breakfast.Have all meals at right time.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and take care.
