What Causes Severe Pain In The Big Toe?

Thank you! For about two weeks I have awakened with a terrible pain in my left big toe. It hasn t happened every day...maybe two or three days a week. The pain feels like what you might feel with an infected ingrown toenail. The pain disappears shortly after I wake up and does not occur again during the day.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Toe pain in night is mostly seen with gout.
Gout is due to deposition of uric acid crystals in toe joints.
So in my opinion, you should first get done serum uric acid level and if raised, you will have to take febuxostat to decrease uric acid level.
If uric acid level is normal, no need to worry for gout.
Sometimes vitamin B12 deficiency can also cause similar symptoms. So get done vitamin B12 level and if deficiency then you will need supplements.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
