What Causes Severe Pain In The Breast After Double Mastectomy?

I had a double mastectomy 5 years and lymph nodes were removed in the right breast- I am starting to feel very sharp pains in the breast (the tissue expanders were replaced with implants)---my doctor stated the pain was due to scar tissue but requested an MRI - the MRI results indicated an ultrasound or another method to see was needed... should I be alarmed that the cancer has returned? Will the ultrasound show anything immediately?

Hello,

If the MRI and ultrasound show no cancer signs than you can be sure that there is no cancer coming back. They detect cancer early. The pain may be caused by fibrinoid tissue formed at the operation site to refill the empty place left by breast and other around tissues removed.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
