Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had Nissan Fundoplication w/Hiatal hernia repair 18 month s ago. Recently I started feeling sharp stabbing pain between my diaphragm and my upper surgical site (laparoscopic) which is about 2 inches lower. This pain has started after a bowel movement, washing a few spots on walls, and today, slicing a squash. It is followed by pretty severe nausea and chills for several hours. I went to the ER last night and they checked me for everything from the flu to diabetes to my liver functions as I have hemochromatosis. Everything came back negative or normal. I called my gastro doctor and he has no idea. Suggestions ?
Most common causes of pain following laparoscopic antireflux surgery are para oesophageal herniation, slipped fundoplication, tight fundoplication, postoperative gastro-oesophageal junction oedema and gastric/oesophageal perforation etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. It may be due to gastritis or reoccurrence of acid and reflux. please consult your surgical gastroenterologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
