What Causes Severe Pain In The Ears Upon Swallowing Food?

I had an EGD four days ago and have had excruciating pain in my right ear since the test. My ear drum hurts when I swallow so bad that it feels like someone is sticking an ice pick down my ear canal. I went to the emergency room and the dr couldn t figure out what was causing it.

Hello,

A common cause of ear pain when swallowing is an ear infection. Most ear infections are caused by a bacterial or viral infection in the middle ear. They usually cause swelling, fluid build-up, and irritation inside your ear, which can cause pain.

Please check with your ENT doctor who may prescribe you an antibiotic and an NSAID.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks.
