Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening Dr. My husband is 53 years old and weighs about 175 lbs and is 6 foot tall. He has been experiencing severe hip pain for approximately 10 days. There was no slip, trip or fall. It is on the outside of his hip and in the socket area he says. He can walk but with extreme discomfort. He has a very high tolerance to pain so has been putting off going to be seen. He plans on going to a immediate care center tomorrow to be checked out. Do you suggest this type of visit or going to an ER? We are fortunate to have excellent insurance so that decision is not an issue. What is your advice on that and if it is possible that this may be a fracture? Understandably, we know a diagnosis cannot be made but would certainly appreciate any input you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration. Regards Email address: YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
At age of 53... without osteoporosis... fracture without any fall/trauma is less possible. He might have developed joint swelling (arthritis) or pinching of the sciatic nerve.
Please let him visit the immediate care centre for consulting an orthopedic surgeon. Imaging investigation (x-ray/MRI) would be helpful in pinpointing the cause... followed by cause-specific treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
